  • students must pass all classes and score a 77 or better in reading and math on their final report card
  • students in a Union County Public school 8th grade class must score a level III or IV on the 8th grade NC EOG or EOC tests; alternate assessments are not accepted. If a student retests, it is the responsibility of the parent to inform Mrs. Tweed. Failure to do so will mean that your will not be approved to go to the lottery. Lottery Process

  • Students must meet the above requirements to be placed into the CATA lottery.
  • The lottery will determine if a child secures a spot in his/her desired academy.
  • When academy spots for a high school are met, students are placed in their second choice academy. If their second choice academy spots are full, students are placed on a wait list for their first choice academy.
  • The 2014-15 lottery will be held on June 24th at 9:00 in the CATA cafeteria. You do not need to be present for the lottery. Only students that meet the entrance criteria will go into the lottery.  Students not meeting the entrance requirements will be notified prior to the lottery.
  • CATA’s Performing Arts academies, Theatre Arts and Dance, require an audition whether it is the student’s first or second choice. Students who are auditioning for Theatre must attend a pre-audition workshop. Students who are not selected after auditions will be put into the lottery for their second choice academy. Please refer to our web site for audition requirements. Theatre and Dance auditions will be held on Saturday, April 26th or Saturday May 3th at 10:00am. Theatre pre-audition workshops will be Thursday, April 24th, Friday, April 25th or Friday. May 2nd. All workshops will be from 5:00-7:00 PM. (Note the time has been changed to accommodate middle school students who could not get to CATA by 4:00pm). You will need to call our main office at 704-296-3088 to schedule your child’s audition for Dance and Theatre and pre-audition workshop for Theatre.

Notification and acceptance to CATA (Performing Arts included)

  • Parents will be emailed by June 25th if their child secures an academy spot at CATA.
  • Parents must follow the link in the acceptance email to accept or decline the spot offered by June 30th. If a response is not received, we will assume you are NOT accepting the spot offered, and that spot will be given to another student on the wait list.
  • If a student is offered a spot and the initial application indicates that the parent does not have access to email; CATA will call the phone number indicated on the application to offer the spot.
  • Reminders will not be made. This is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to respond by the June 30th deadline. This includes Performing Arts.

Note: Students who accept a spot at CATA will be required to sign a one year commitment to Central Academy. *Students will not be able to change their academy while attending Central Academy.
